Ringway to start work on Loughborough inner relief road

Construction of Loughborough’s new inner relief road is set to get underway next week with Ringway Infrastructure Services carrying out the work.

The £14.8 million scheme will also see improvements made to pedestrian access in the town centre and the Epinal Way/Forest Road junction.

Ringway will be carrying out the construction on behalf of Leicestershire County Council.

Work including road widening, the diversion of utilities, installation of new traffic signals and drainage work will begin at a number of locations next Tuesday (7 May).

Speaking to the Loughborough Echo, Ian Drummond, assistant director for transportation at Leicestershire County Council, said: “The start of work really is a major milestone in this ambitious project.

“The inner relief road will divert traffic away from heart of Loughborough, helping to improve safety and connect the town centre.

“Throughout the construction we will work closely with Ringway Infrastructure Services to minimise disruption but, inevitably with a scheme such as this, traffic flow will be affected at times.

“During the work we would ask people to bear with us and plan their journeys, consider alternative routes and give themselves a bit of extra time when travelling through Loughborough.”
