Notts opens £8.6m highways depot

A new Nottinghamshire highways depot which cost £8.6m to build has opened.

The county council said the facility, on the former Bilsthorpe Colliery site, was its largest and replaces depots in Newark, Cuckney, Mansfield and Arnold.

It houses the authority’s third salt barn, allowing an extra 5,000 tonnes of gritting salt to be stockpiled in the county.

The council claimed the depot would also be more energy-efficient and cheaper to run.
