Biker killed in road sign crash

A man has died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a road sign in Northumberland.

Police said the 45-year-old, who has not been named, was travelling south on the A696 near Belsay on Sunday, when his Kawasaki bike left the road.

He was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary with multiple injuries, but later pronounced dead.

The road was closed for more than four hours on Monday while crash investigators examined the scene.
