The contract to construct the Woodside Link road in Bedfordshire has been awarded to Balfour Beatty.
Central Bedfordshire Council authorised the contract award at a meeting of its Executive on 31 March 2015.
The 1.8-mile Woodside link road is expected to stimulate investment, reduce congestion and improve air quality in Houghton Regis and Dunstable. It will connect the Porz Avenue/Park Road North/Poynters Road roundabout to a new M1 motorway junction 11a; it will link to Highways England’s A5-M1 link (currently under construction) and to Sundon Road; and it will serve proposed housing and business developments.
The Woodside Link is scheduled to open in autumn 2016.
Marcel Coiffait, director of community services, Central Bedfordshire Council, said: “The Woodside Link is crucial for the regeneration of Houghton Regis and Dunstable. It will enable the creation of jobs, facilitate the building of new homes and improve air quality. Attention now turns to successfully delivering this important scheme.”
Nick Osborne, regional director of operations, Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK, added: “Balfour Beatty are delighted to have been awarded the Woodside Link road project, and look forward to delivering this prestigious scheme in a collaboration with Central Bedfordshire Council and the local community.”
