The second of four preview podcasts to get you ready for the ITS World Congress in Montreal, sponsored by Swarco and HMI Technologies, is now online.

In it, ITS America’s interim CEO and President David St Amant explains how the congress brings together experts to face the challenges faced by our industry around the globe and to work on best-practice solutions.

The issue of cyber security is tackled by Barry Einsig from Cisco who tells Smart Highways editor Paul Hutton that when you look across ITS there is a tremendous amount of legacy infrastructure that have to date been secured by obscurity, but that if we want to move into a connected world we need to open these systems.

We hear more about the on-street demos in Montreal with ITS Canada Chairman Chris Philp, ITS Australia’s CEO Susan Harris, who planned last year’s highly-successful event in Melbourne, gives some advice and Michael de Santis, chair of the local arrangements committee, explains how visitors and delegates are looked after by a team of volunteers.

There’ll be another Countdown to Congress in two weeks’ time. For sponsorship opportunities, to join HMI Technologies and Swarco for this event, contact Chris Day,

Leading British temporary ITS solutions provider, Mobile Visual Information Systems (MVIS), says it has increased its turnover by 500% over the last two years, doubling the size of its team in the last 12 months alone.

Since autumn 2014, MVIS has appointed staff across its technical, delivery and maintenance and sales operations, as well as relocating to larger premises.

Its products include VMS, ANPR, CCTV and radar equipment.  MVIS’s VMS signs are manufactured in the UK by Bartco UK.

MVIS’s general manager, Anne Ashman says “The last two years have been tremendously exciting for us. We’ve worked in partnership with other innovative ITS providers to create pioneering solutions to help further improve the safety and efficiency of the UK’s road network.

“We’ve also worked in partnership with many leading transport management organisations, such as Chevron, A-one+, Costain and BAM Morgan Sindall to create bespoke ITS solutions to meet their needs precisely. It is this commitment to innovation and partnership that has enabled MVIS to grow so significantly, and that will facilitate the company’s ongoing expansion, helping Highways England to efficiently deliver its £11 billion of improvements over the next five years.”’
