Highways England has awarded GRAHAM two works packages worth a total of £19m for improvements to four major roads in the East of England.

The projects cover the A47, A11, A1 and A12 and extend from Peterborough to Norwich and through to Lowestoft via Great Yarmouth. They consists of multiple key safety improvements, surfacing, structures and technology schemes.

The packages are part of a collaborative delivery framework (CDF), which groups projects geographically.

Family-owned GRAHAM said the works are the latest significant contract award for its growing civil engineering division.

It is already engaging with local stakeholder groups and the community to establish good relationships and maintain clear lines of communication with road users.

The firm has also recruited ‘significant numbers’ of local people to work on the projects. This aims to ensure that everyone in its team has full knowledge of the local landscape and is familiar with the roads and surrounding areas where the projects are taking place.

Dave Brown, highways director for GRAHAM, said: ‘We are delighted to be working with Highways England on this prestigious contract; it is really encouraging to see that our long-standing and collaborative relationship continues to grow stronger.

‘We look forward to working in partnership with the CDF community to ensure that the project is completed safely and to the highest possible standards.

‘As well as this, we make sure that the local community and stakeholders are fully engaged before, during and after the works – strong and effective communication is one of our core values and an approach that we maintain throughout all of the civil engineering projects we undertake.’

GRAHAM said most of the work will be completed overnight to ensure minimal impact on road users.
