Mouchel and AECOM have teamed up to secure two schemes on Highways England’s Smart Motorways programme.
The commission is valued at £2.8 million and covers work on the M62 between junctions 10 to 12 and on the M6 from junctions 21a to 26.
“This is a significant win,” said Mouchel’s senior technical director in intelligent transport services Phil Barton.
He added: “We have experience of working successfully with AECOM and Highways England in the past, and the extensive collective experience of smart motorways underpinned by the collaborative cultures embraced by both organisations provide real confidence that the challenging timescales for these schemes will be successfully achieved by the team.”
Both projects are aimed at easing congestion and improve transport links between Warrington and Wigan for the M6 and Liverpool, Warrington New Town, and Manchester on the M62.
The work will include provision of engineering and design services, including operational assessments and traffic technology services for electronic signs and signals as well as CCTV and monitoring equipment.
The win for Mouchel, which is now part of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, builds on the group’s previous work on Highways England’s AS14 Smart Motorway Programme Operational Concept work, which includes a package on the M1.
