Major sign schemes on Notts roads

Two major sign improvement schemes are set to start on the A1 and A46 in Nottinghamshire.

Work to install the signs on the southbound approach to Newark-On-Trent will start next Monday.

New signs are also scheduled to be installed on the A1 a few weeks later on 28 October. Both schemes are expected to be completed by 20 December.

Highways Agency, Project Manager Mark Simmonite said: “Drivers will see a big improvement as a result of these schemes.

“The A1 and A46 do not currently have any message signs, so there is no way for the Highways Agency to provide timely information on the ground about the conditions ahead.

“They will also help our traffic officers to manage the traffic flow in the area to reduce delays and congestion.”

The schemes are both part of the Government’s £317m pinch point programme designed to boost local economies, reduce congestion and improve safety.
