L&R Roadlines in partnerships to promote industry to workers

The road marking and surfacing contractor L&R Roadlines is partnering with Carillion and Kier at a series of events to promote the construction industry in order to retain existing talent and foster the next generation.

They say recent events attended include an Enrichment Day which took place on 17th February at the Oaks Academy in Crewe, where year 9 students participated in a broad range of activities such as trying on PPE, discussing the role of safety wear and finding out more about road safety, road markings and high friction surfacing.  This was followed by a classroom session to show their skills and knowledge in design and build requirements.

“L&R Roadlines is always pleased to participate in joint initiatives of this kind to promote the construction industry and consolidate our close business relationship with the Carillion Kier Joint Venture (CKJV), including the joint provision of apprentice qualifications,” commented to Lisa Shakeshaft, Commercial Manager at L&R Roadlines.  “These events provide a valuable opportunity to engage with young people and encourage them to give serious consideration to a career in civil engineering and construction.  They also demonstrate L&R’s proactive approach to social value responsibility in line with Kier, Carillion and Highways England objectives.”

Melissa Day, Training and Skills Coordinator with Carillion Kier Joint Venture (CKJV), added:  “CKJV is committed to developing close working relationships with specialist supply chain partners such as L&R Roadlines and welcomes the opportunity to jointly promote the sector at these events.”

The team also supported a STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) event which took place at South Cheshire College in Crewe on 14th February.

“Events such as these are critical to building capacity and capability across the sector,” added Luana Bills, NSAfC Project Skills Coordinator with CKJV.  “We also value L&R Roadlines’ approach to sharing and developing best practices which enable the CKJV to deliver efficient, high quality infrastructure solutions and extend value to our stakeholders.”

L&R Roadlines has a longstanding relationship with Carillion and Kier having worked extensively together on a wide range oflandmark civil engineering infrastructure projects across the UK.
