Balfour wins £4.1m Durham interchange

Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering has been awarded a £4.1m contract for highway infrastructure works on the DurhamGate Project.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Durham County Council to allow easier access to DurhamGate, a new development designed to revitalise industrial brownfield land near Spennymoor.

Balfour has a strong track record of delivering similar projects in County Durham as lead contractor in the Council’s Strategic Alliance which ran for seven years until 2010.

Work will involve construction of a new fifth leg off the A167/A688 Thinford roundabout junction, creating access to the development.

Associated works include improving the existing roundabouts and road network in the area and all on-site highways signage, drainage and public realm works.
