Tarmac recycled 8.2 million tonnes of waste and secondary materials and reduced carbon emissions by 27% last year according to the group’s new Sustainability Report.

The report is the first released since Tarmac was taken over by CRH in August 2015 and shows progress made against reaching milestones by 2020 across four key themes of people, planet, performance and solutions.

Tarmac Sustainability Director Doctor Martyn Kenny said: “We remain committed to prioritising sustainability as a core element of our business performance and, through this, deliver direct benefits to customers, communities and stakeholders.

“With customers in particular, we are continuing to champion collaborative working and the importance of whole-life performance of materials to deliver a more sustainable built environment, and drive continual improvements in industry standards.”

The report also showed that all Tarmac sites were certified to the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard.
